Jamie
| Jamie, I don't have time to give you the full story ( I will later), but I made a trip to Capulin Mountain in NM this weekend to help you understand that my rock didn't come from this region. Luckily I met Bill Sayre, PhD of The College of Santa Fe. His e-mail address is sayre@santafe.edu. He says that my rock can't have come from this region. First, the oldest volcanoes in the Clayton/Raton field are only about 9 Ma and my rock at 13 Ma can't be a possibility. Second, this entire field is mostly a low silicon field with the highest percentage of silicon being about 70% and as low as 35%. My rock is over 80% according to Michael Zolensky who did the EDX spectrum. Also the structure and delicate nature rule out the possibility that this rock has been on Earth for a single rain or freeze thaw cycle. I'll write you more details and send the summary of the volcanic field and send you samples from the different regions as soon as I get time. I'm sorry that this rock can't be from North America and that sooner or later everyone will have to accept this as a meteorite. Remember that the definition of a meteorite is something that falls from space, not something proclaimed as a meteorite by a meteorite expert. Things are starting to get interesting and I hope you remain a part of this process. Your friend,
