Statement of Purpose

When speaking of good and bad for any species, surely the survival of the species must be considered good, from the viewpoint of that species.  And when looking at what characteristics lead to survival, surely diversity must be at the top of the list.   Since mankind currently resides on only a single planet in a single solar system in a single galaxy, it is imperative for our survival that we diversify and establish ourselves at one or more locations which are not on the planet Earth.

For mankind to be truly motivated to accomplish any task, there must be a focus that drives the people forward and keeps them working together.  In the history of our space program, only the ascent to the moon qualified as an event where mankind was focused.  With the realization that mankind needs a similar focus to get to Mars, I hereby propose that the Frass Meteorite be used to transfix mankind's attention on the red planet and the fact that life arose there also.

It is a necessary condition of our survival as a species that we take control of our solar system and establish towns and cities in as many places as possible.  I have proposed the asteroid capture project (www.micromikes.com) which would provide locations for mankind to inhabit.  Also the moon would be a necessary place for mankind to establish a self sufficient colony.  But only Mars offers the draw of a planet that was once very much alive like the Earth and, in fact, still has living things on the surface.

Since Mars is in the final "days" of its life, we must get there as soon as possible to preserve any remaining types of life that have not yet succumbed to the ever drier environment of Mars.  Just as each species on the planet Earth is valuable to the survival of the human species, any species that developed on another planet would be most beneficial in mankind's desire to understand our cosmos.

Therefore, I ask all who share my desire to have mankind colonize Mars, please help me in any way that you can.
