This chart shows the life of a real particle. The two vertical marks at each end of the graph represent the relationship of c to that of c2. I have separated the two vertical marks so that you see them, because if I put them at the proper distance they would only be about 3 ten thousands of an inch apart, so they would look like a single line to you. This gives one a sense of perspective. A particle starts its existence with only c's worth of energy in its gravitational component. Upon entering a black hole, that same particle would only have about c's worth of energy left in its mass. Thus the useful life of the particle would be c2-c-c or about c2. But you can see that leaves a lot of time for this particle to make its attachments of gravions.
