Dear Dr. Christensen,
I probably have you at a disadvantage since I feel like I know you from your news conferences and from a chance meeting we had several years ago. If I am correct, I met you at the entrance to the space sciences building on the campus. We only exchanged a glance and no words, but I saw in your eye what I perceived as an honest, intelligent, open, and caring human being. My hope is that my perceptions were correct.
I write you about a special problem that I hope you have the courage to solve. The reason that I was at your campus was because I had made an impromptu visit and had just left a long conversation with another individual when I met you at the door. I thought that everything had gone well during my visit, only to find later that things apparently didn’t go so well. I had brought a small piece of a meteorite that landed on my great aunt’s ranch more than 30 years ago. At the end of the conversation, I mentioned that the rules for finding meteorites were not properly written to include newly formed meteorites from planetary bodies, such as Mars. The only thing I can figure, is that somehow I insulted this person, because every since, he and his friends have done all they could to make sure that the meteorite I found would never be investigated by science.
The long years since have cost me dearly, including the premature death of my only son. My desire then and now is to find the truth. Since no one would help me, I began a journey to try to understand the rock that showed up one day while we were feeding cattle. My aunt had owned the ranch for 50 years and this rock had never been there before, including the previous day when we fed the cattle according to the same schedule. There are no rocks on the ranch and the melting over the entire outer surface eventually convinced me it was a meteorite.
I began a series of tests. I could only do those tests that I could pay for at private laboratories, but the most interesting test is the K-Ar dating that shows the meteorite was created in at least two lava flows over a period of 36 million years, beginning 50 million years ago. The older lava had been in liquid water on the surface, because it was enclosed in sand in the inner vesicles of the newer rock. The newest flow of lava occurred about 13 million years ago and doesn’t appear to have ever been wet in that many years. I don’t believe there is any place on Earth that has been dry for that long. Mars probably fits the above scenario. Every particle in and on the meteorite appears to be surface material and was never compressed, in 50 million years, by being beneath the surface.
The other interesting feature of my tests was the linear nature of the elemental oxides. The meteorite appears to have been made when lava flowed through a bed of sand on at least two occasions over 36 million years. I’ve isolated the two lava flows from the sandy material and had them tested separately. In addition, the sandy material is made up of a number of basalt particles, plus what I would consider “traditional” sand with particles that are small, bright and high in silicon. I isolated these particles from the basalt and tested them all separately. The interesting part is the linear chemistry. When normalized for silicon and plotting any element against any other element, there is always a linear nature to the plots. It looks to me like all of these materials came from the same source material; i.e. the same volcano. Since Mars is known to have long standing stable volcanic systems, the most likely place of origin for the rock is Mars.
The most controversial evidence of Martian origin is the Martian life that has apparently made the trip to Earth in the meteorite. When I first found the meteorite, I didn’t think it important because it looked rather simple to me. I mostly didn’t look at it, except every few years I would get it out and examine it. About ten to fifteen years after I found it, I noticed that fuzz seemed to be growing out of a crack in the rock. I thought that strange, yet there was no other evidence to support any kind of model about what might be happening, so I mostly kept it in the back of my mind. Then in 1996 NASA announced that they had found possible remnants of life in a meteorite from Mars that they had recovered from Antarctica. At that point, the fuzz began making sense, and that is the time that I began my own testing of the rock. Since then, I have successfully “grown” these creatures both in the meteorite and in my freezer, without benefit of liquid water or light. Also, within the last year I have become aware of a disease that may be associated with these creatures. It is called Morgellons. It seems to be isolated to three areas of the country, and may be associated with meteorite falls into water supplies. There are about 8,000 world wide suffers of the disease. And now, the final piece of evidence has arrived in my possession. Another meteorite has been recovered from another location within America and it shows the same fusion crust, the same sandy material in all of its vesicles, the same colors and features seen in my meteorite, and most importantly, it shows the same filaments growing out of the meteorite that are presently growing out of my meteorite.
When I sent out the first sample of my meteorite to the scientific community, I was half way to the post office when I realized that sand had fallen out on the table when I broke off the sample. I thought that strange and immediately looked at it through my microscope when I got back home. The first thing I saw was these little filaments and a piece of something that looked like a part off a small tree. At that point I had to come to a moral decision. I clearly thought this rock had fallen from space and now it showed evidence that it contained the life of another world. Should I tell the scientists about my suspicions or should I just keep quite? If I were exposing them to alien life, then I thought I had a moral obligation to tell them about it. On the other hand, I knew if I mentioned there might be life in the meteorite, then I risked not being taken seriously. I chose what I thought was the more honorable position of telling the truth. When I first approached these scientists, I got the feeling that they would study the meteorite, if only I told them I saw it fall. But that was not the truth and I have sought the truth from the beginning. It has become obvious that my fears were warranted; because I have not been taken seriously even thought I offered to be tested in any way to determine my competency or my integrity. The life of Mars is too important to be withheld from the public over so many facts that can now actually be proven or disproven.
This and other evidence allowed me to make a number of predictions about what the two rovers would find on Mars. After studying the filament creatures for years, I came to realize that they must be one of the most adapted species in creation. To make it to Earth alive in a meteorite, they would have to be able to stand the radiation of space. But if they live on the surface of Mars, they would have had to learn how to handle radiation a long time ago. Other evidence convinced me that these creatures probably used the winds of Mars to move around, and if that were so, they would likely inhabit virtually every square inch of the surface of the planet. Photographs from both rovers show numerous examples of these creatures. Almost every microscopic photograph from Opportunity shows one or more of these filaments lying in, on, and through the surface of Mars. There can’t be that much air bag material on Mars and it would have been hard for me to predict these photos before they were taken. I don’t know what photographs you have seen that the public has not, but the evidence for life on Mars is now overwhelming and undeniable.
I think we are at a unique point in human history. For all of our existence we have wondered if we are alone in the cosmos. I can’t prove that Mars has intelligent life (I’m not sure that Earth has intelligent life yet eitherJ) but I think I can prove that life does exist on Mars right this minute. If this statement is true, I don’t see how any truth loving scientist could resist the effort to prove me right or wrong. If I am correct and Mars is alive, it would be a crime against nature and humanity not to reveal this information to the people of this world. If I am propagating some false story, then that too deserves to be made public.
I have sent you several samples of both meteorites. The fusion crust has been one point of contention about my meteorite, but I don’t know how you or anyone else can reject the fusion crust on this new meteorite. And if you examine the samples carefully, you will see that they are filled with the same sand and that this sand is home to a number of filaments that do grow and are not cloth fibers as some have suggested. The fusion crust is different on these meteorites because they are newly made meteorites from a planetary body. They are both collections of basalt lavas. They both are full of butterscotch colored sand, some of which is melted on the outside as fusion crust. Since these rocks are light weight and have relatively thin walls separated by vesicles filled with sand, the fusion crust is different than a heavy, dense rock, like most meteorites. Whatever is on the outer surface was melted when these rocks came through the atmosphere. Therefore, the fusion crust can be any color to match that of the material it was made from.
The one meteoritic person that actually viewed my meteorite, said there wasn’t enough melting for it to have come through the atmosphere, yet he admitted it was melted. How can one person judge what is enough? Other specialists in orbital reentry say that it shows the appropriate amount of melting for a transit through the atmosphere. The meteorite has been viewed by many geologists who are not meteoritic specialists, and they all say it is a volcanic bomb (because of the obvious melting). When I point out the two ages of creation and how there are rocks and debris inside the vesicles of the main rock and therefore it can’t have one creation as a volcanic bomb, they just shrug. That is not science. When a disagreement comes up in science, more tests are run to find the truth, not less tests.
I have enclosed a number of items to help prove my case. I have enclosed my transcripts from college so that you can see that I am competent in science. I received my first degree (BS) in three years while working up to 40 hours a week the last year. My second degree was in electronics where I graduated the two year course in one year, with a perfect 4.0 average and an offer to teach at the institution the day I graduated. Many in the meteoritic community have attacked my intelligence and my competence, yet I am willing to prove both I can only find examples of them berating my character, yet never is there a discussion about the evidence of Martian origin.
I have enclosed samples from the two meteorites that I have mentioned. The sample labeled A is from my meteorite and is an internal core sample (taken by LANL) and shows no fusion crust. The other two samples come from the second meteorite (labeled B) that landed approximately five years ago on a farm, somewhere in North America. One (B1) clearly shows the fusion crust, the sandy material, and the filament creatures that I have discussed. It was broken off the main meteorite and shows fusion crust on one side only. The second (B2) looks very much like one of the rocks “ratted” by Spirit, being black with light streaks throughout. As before, I must warn you that you may be facing the life of another world if you examine these samples, but I don’t think this life is harmful to healthy people, although no one really knows for sure at this point in space and time.
I’ve also enclosed sample photographs of the meteorites and a copy of the test results and some of my plots of the elemental oxides from meteorite A. Please notice the linear nature of these graphs.
I believe that all humanity is now watching you and your actions. I don’t know if there is a cover-up and conspiracy at NASA. Certainly before I started this project I didn’t believe in any conspiracies. But after the years of abuse that I have faced from the meteoritic community and the unfortunate death of my son, I have become hardened and don’t know what to think. That is why I call on your honesty, your integrity and your scientific curiosity to openly examine the samples that I have sent you and compare these two meteorites to the rocks you have examined on Mars. You have offered to do the same for the children of America, if they will just send you rocks from their area. Please do the same for these samples. Please let honesty and truth be your guiding light and let’s get to the bottom of this mystery as soon as possible.
I have accumulated a lot of evidence for the water and life of Mars. It can be seen at my web site, which is listed below.
It will take a lot of bravery to face the criticism of the meteoritic community if you help me. But they have designed the rules wrong for finding these specific kinds of meteorites and they are not willing to admit their fault. We see thin walled vesicled rocks all over Mars and to think that none of them have made their way to Earth is preposterous. I think you now have in your possession two rocks that represent this new category of meteorites. We will learn the most from the meteorites that are the most different. Please don’t be afraid to search for the truth and let the chips fall where they may. I have no intention of hurting anyone in the meteoritic community, but the truth can not be withheld just to sooth their feelings. Please think about all of these issues and do what is right. Future history is watching.
